an official music competition of the State of Texas. YTA was created by the Montgomery County Performing Arts Socety in 1983 as an effort to encourage excellence in young musicians and to further artistic growth throughout the state of Texas. In 1999, Entergy Texas graciously offered its support enabling the competition to evolve into the rich experience it is today. Our judges are distinguished artists who have achieved acclaim in their respective disciplines.
Our candidates are generally pursuing a career in classical music and are either residents of Texas or enrolled in Texas music schools. The evening performance and final round of the competition is a featured event of the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society regular season. MCPAS especially delights in bringing this fresh and exciting musical experience to the people of the greater Conroe area. The competition takes place yearly in Montgomery County (just north of Houston) at the historic Crighton Theatre the second full weekend of March. Beautifully restored to 1930s vaudeville elegance, it is noted for its period ambiance and excellent acoustics.
What an exciting year we have in store! Our panel of judges and pool of applicants continue to raise the bar while our audiences grow yearly to over-capacity. Won’t you join us? Plenty of volunteer opportunities abound. Or consider joining our generous sponsors by making a donation. Your gift helps support the best of Texas’ talent, so c’mon! Get on board!
